What is DTF Printing? The Game-Changer in Custom Apparel

What is DTF Printing? The Game-Changer in Custom Apparel

If you’ve ever wondered how we get vibrant, long-lasting designs onto shirts, hats, and

more – let us introduce you to one of our favorite tools: DTF Printing, short for Direct-to-

Film printing.

It might sound technical, but trust us – it’s a total game-changer for small brands like Mr.

Moyer Lane, and here’s why

What is DTF printing?

DTF is a modern printing method where designs are printed onto a special film, then

transferred directly to fabric using heat and pressure. The result? A bold, full-color

graphic that feels soft, stretches with our shirt, and stands up to washing without

cracking or peeling.

Unlike screen printing or vinyl, DTF doesn’t limit you to one color at a time or bulky

textures. It’s perfect for small runs, complex artwork, or anything with a lot of detail.

How Does the DTF Process Work?

Here’s how we go from digital design to custom wearable:

1. Design Creation: We start with a high-resolution design file – whether it’s a

custom logo, bold graphic, or your favorite meme.

2. Printing to Film: The design is printed onto a clear film using special DTF inks.

Then we apply a powdered adhesive to the back of the print while it’s still wet.

3. Curing: The print is lightly cured (dried) to get it ready for transfer.

4. Heat press Time: We press the film onto the garment with heat and pressure.

The adhesive melts into the fabric, permanently bonding the design.

5. Peel & Reveal: Once cooled, we peel the film away, revealing a vibrant, flexible,

and durable print.
